QWER recently sat down for an interview with Star News in Jongno, Seoul, where they shared their thoughts on winning at AAA 2024, reflected on their journey so far, and discussed their future plans.
This interview has been translated and presented in three parts. Part 1 covers their AAA 2024 experience and how QWER was formed. Part 2 delves into their journey of learning instruments and their hit songs. Finally, Part 3 explores their thoughts on fan reactions and their plans for international activities.
Here is Part 1.
QWER Interview: Winning the AAA 2024 Rookie Award
Siyeon shared her thoughts on winning the rookie award at AAA 2024. She had always hoped to receive such an honor within a year of debut. When she finally stood on stage to accept it, she was overwhelmed with emotion and struggled to hold back tears. She couldn’t say everything she wanted, but she expressed deep gratitude to her parents, the company’s CEO, and the staff. Most of all, she thanked the fans and promised to continue delivering sincere music.
QWER Interview: Experiencing an Overseas Awards Ceremony
For Siyeon, performing at an overseas dome was a new experience. She was amazed by the vast venue and the sheer number of fans. The presence of international audiences made her even more nervous. However, as she stood backstage, watching the stage lights shine, she couldn’t wait to step onto the stage. She felt grateful for the opportunity to perform. Hina recalled being struck by the venue’s size during rehearsals. The thought of performing in front of a packed crowd made her anxious, but it also strengthened her determination to deliver a flawless performance.
QWER Interview: The Meaning Behind QWER’s Name
The name ‘QWER’ might seem unfamiliar to some, but Chodan explained its origin. It comes from the keyboard keys commonly used for gaming skills. Since the letters are arranged in a simple order, it reflects the way the members naturally came together. He appreciated the deeper meaning behind the name and believed it represented their synergy on stage. Magenta added that naming the band was a challenge, but once they settled on QWER, their shared passion for music remained unchanged.
How the Members First Met
Before joining QWER, Siyeon had experience as a Japanese idol, while Chodan, Magenta, and Hina were influencers. Magenta and Chodan were already friends, and she had interacted with Hina through social media. However, she met Siyeon for the first time when the band was formed. As a fan of Japanese anime and girl groups, she knew about Siyeon’s background. When they first met, Siyeon seemed quiet, which Magenta attributed to her adjusting to Korea. But to her surprise, Siyeon suddenly started dancing like Shin-chan, breaking the ice. Siyeon explained that she tends to become lively around close friends and has often been called eccentric. She believed that being playful would help them bond, and she appreciated Magenta for opening up to her.
Magenta’s Role as the Group’s Big Sister
As the oldest member, Magenta naturally takes on a leadership role. She described herself as spontaneous and often initiates gatherings by suggesting meals after practice. Hina, on the other hand, used to enjoy staying home, watching dramas, and playing games. However, after learning the guitar, she began prioritizing music over her usual hobbies. Sometimes, she felt lonely, but Magenta always noticed and encouraged her to go out. Thanks to Magenta’s efforts, Hina’s life became more vibrant, and she enjoyed being surrounded by friends of similar ages.
