DAY6 has led the surge of band music in Korea, recording over 340 million streams on Melon this year. Other bands like Silica Gel and QWER have also gained attention, with QWER’s “T.B.H” staying in the Top 10 and Silica Gel seeing a 200% streaming increase. JYP Entertainment’s Park Jin-young supported DAY6 for 10 years, helping the group achieve lasting success in the band music scene.
The Band Music Dominance of DAY6 in Streaming Charts
DAY6 has been leading the rise of band music in the Korean music scene. The group has claimed top spots on streaming charts, recording over 340 million streams on Melon this year alone. Melon revealed these figures through their “Data Lab” feature, highlighting the success of DAY6 and other bands like Silica Gel and QWER. Both of DAY6’s albums released this year, “Forever” and “Band Aid,” surpassed one million streams each. DAY6 also achieved over one billion cumulative streams on Melon, joining the exclusive “Billions Club.”
Success of Other Bands: Silica Gel, Jannabi and QWER
Indie band Silica Gel has seen their streaming numbers soar, with a growth rate of over 200% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, QWER’s song “T.B.H” consistently ranked in the Top 10 on Melon until early last month. QWER, known as a “growth-type girl band,” is steadily gaining attention in the Korean music scene, showcasing their potential for further success in the band music genre.
Jannabi, another popular band, continues to prove their enduring appeal with the hit track “For Hesitating Lovers.” This song ranked 8th on Melon’s annual chart in 2019 and returned to the charts last year, reaching 58th place. This demonstrates that Jannabi’s music has lasting power, with fans continuing to enjoy their band music years after its release.
QWER, DAY6, and Band Comparisons in Online Communities
In online communities like MLBPARK, many users have shared that listening to QWER’s songs has naturally led them to discover other bands, including DAY6. Fans often compare QWER to DAY6, acknowledging that while QWER has not yet reached DAY6’s level of success, being compared to them is seen as an honor. DAY6 remains at the top of the band music scene, but QWER is gaining recognition.
The Journey of DAY6 with JYP and the Band Music Genre
A recurring topic in these discussions is DAY6’s connection to JYP Entertainment. Fans emphasize how JYP Entertainment’s founder, Park Jinyoung, spent 10 years supporting the band music genre and investing in DAY6, even without immediate results. Despite the lack of early hit songs, Park was determined to support band music over idol music, even if it wasn’t profitable. Thanks to Park’s unwavering dedication, DAY6 managed to endure for 10 years and eventually secure their current position at the top of the music industry. Fans express gratitude for Park’s persistence in promoting band music through DAY6.

I heard DAY6 had to withdraw from Japan due to COVID-19. I know they’d have to start from scratch, but I hope they can promote here again someday.
