FIFTY FIFTY and Avokid’s “Gravity” Sparks Public Interest
The track “Gravity” from the second album Love Tune by FIFTY FIFTY recently garnered significant attention, even inspiring a belated music video production. Central to its success is Avokid, who contributed both lyrics and composition.
Besides her involvement in writing, Avokid performed “Gravity” herself and posted it on social media, where it gained positive feedback from Korean communities. On MLBPARK, the community praised her vocal talent, noting that the songwriter was also an impressive singer. Interestingly, Avokid has another song titled “Gravity,” which has also attracted attention. Here, Avokid speaks with IZM, sharing insights on her work with FIFTY FIFTY.
Avokid Discusses the Rising Popularity of FIFTY FIFTY and “Gravity”
Q: Are you aware of the growing popularity of FIFTY FIFTY and “Gravity”?
A: Yes, I was quite surprised by the number of people visiting my Instagram and YouTube channels. Especially after posting a cover of “Gravity” on social media, the interest really picked up.
The Coincidence of Two “Gravity” Songs by Avokid and FIFTY FIFTY
Q: You previously released a song called “Gravity” in March last year. Now there’s another “Gravity” with FIFTY FIFTY. Is there a connection?
A: It’s really just a coincidence. When we began working on the song for FIFTY FIFTY, it didn’t yet have a title. I asked the producer about his inspiration, and he mentioned the universe. Since it’s a theme I love—and I had already written a song called “Gravity”—I thought, “Why not use that title?” But this isn’t a continuation of my solo work.
FIFTY FIFTY and Avokid’s “Gravity” Comes to Life Through Collaboration
Q: What is the background behind FIFTY FIFTY and Avokid’s “Gravity”?
A: We created it during a songwriting camp. Honestly, I didn’t expect anyone to buy it—the notes are quite high! (laughs) We wanted to have fun, so we focused on artists we liked, such as Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. When we shared these ideas with the producer, he crafted the melody on the spot. It was incredibly fast. My favorite part is the second verse, where I insisted on adding a string sound.
A One-Day Creative Process at the Songwriting Camp
Q: Was the song actually completed in just one day?
A: Yes, that’s right. Although it was our first time meeting, we had such a good time that everything was finished by the end of the day. Once the melody was set, we quickly wrote the lyrics and recorded a guide. Writer Ga-yoon Lee and I collaborated on the guide recording.
Positive Reactions from FIFTY FIFTY to “Gravity”
Q: How did the members of FIFTY FIFTY react when they heard “Gravity”?
A: Since I’m not part of their agency, I didn’t communicate with them directly. However, I heard through a vocal director I know, who worked closely with FIFTY FIFTY, that they loved it. Honestly, “Gravity” wasn’t initially written with idols in mind.
Avokid’s Reflections on Working with Idols and Future Collaborations
Q: Seeing that an idol group ended up choosing “Gravity,” did you have any vocal concerns?
A: Not really. Our goal was simply to create something fun. I did, however, wonder, “Why would they pick this song?” I attended FIFTY FIFTY’s showcase on September 20, where they performed the entire Love Tune album. “Gravity” was performed last, and compared to the other easy-listening tracks, it had a unique vibe. I wondered if the repetition might be challenging, so I was amazed by how well it’s been received.
Q: Has this experience with FIFTY FIFTY made you interested in working with more idols? Any specific idols you’d like to collaborate with?
A: Yes, I’ve noticed that many idols are now moving toward a band sound. I’d love to work with rock-inspired artists like Kiss of Life.
