Suga received a fine for drunk driving after riding an electric scooter with a blood alcohol level of 0.227%. The 15 million won($11,500) fine sparked public debate, with some arguing it was excessive due to his celebrity status, while others defended it based on legal standards. Despite the controversy, many believe that resolving the issue quickly is the best way for him to repair his image.
Suga Receives Fine for Drunk Driving Incident
BTS member Suga has been fined for driving an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol. On the 30th, the Seoul Western District Court’s Judge Lee Yoo-seop imposed a fine of 15 million won ($11,500) on Suga. He had been summarily indicted for violating the Road Traffic Act due to his drunk driving. This fine aligns with the amount previously requested by prosecutors on the 10th of the month. Summary orders are issued for relatively minor offenses, such as fines or penalties, based on written reviews without a full trial. If Suga disagrees, he can request a formal trial within seven days.
Suga’s Fine Linked to Drunk Driving on Electric Scooter
The incident occurred on the night of August 6th at 11:15 PM in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu. Suga was indicted for riding an electric scooter while drunk. His blood alcohol content at the time was 0.227%, three times the legal limit of 0.08% for license suspension. When the news spread to the Korean online community MLBPARK, many commented that the fine was particularly harsh. Some people speculated that Suga received a heavier penalty due to his celebrity status.
Public Reaction to Suga’s Fine for Drunk Driving
Several individuals felt that Suga’s punishment was excessive because he was a first-time offender with no victims involved. Furthermore, he was riding a small electric scooter, not a car. These factors led some to argue that a fine of 15 million won was too severe. However, others countered this opinion by pointing out that South Korea imposes the same penalties for drunk driving, whether the vehicle is a car or an electric scooter, and that the penalty depends primarily on the blood alcohol level.
Why Some Defend the Severity of Suga’s Fine
Those defending the fine noted that Suga’s blood alcohol content was 0.227%, a level that would have resulted in a similar fine for any individual, not just a celebrity. Additionally, because he drove on the sidewalk, the penalty of 15 million won was seen as appropriate. For someone of Suga’s financial status, 15 million won may not be a significant amount of money, but his image has taken a severe hit due to the drunk driving charge.
Moving Forward for Suga
Suga’s best course of action would be to accept the fine and move on from this incident as quickly as possible. Drawing out the legal process could cause further damage to his public image. By resolving the case swiftly, he can focus on repairing his reputation. Engaging in community service or other positive activities may help rebuild his image after this misstep.

Its such a shame… Just tell me what was wrong if he slipped off his scooter in front of his own house. No one was harmed. He didn’t made any trouble for anyone. Its such a shame on those who forced him to apologize and to pay fine when he didn’t did anything wrong.
