Suga has been issued a summary indictment for driving an electric scooter under the influence. The court may impose a fine without a formal trial, as the prosecution determined that Suga’s offense warrants a financial penalty. Public response has been relatively quiet, except for some critical voices on certain online platforms.
Suga Faces Summary Indictment for Drunk Scooter Incident

Summary Indictment Process in Suga’s Case
A summary indictment is a procedure where the prosecution requests the court to impose a fine without a formal trial. Depending on the severity, the court could decide to proceed with a formal trial. Summary indictments are usually issued when the prosecution deems the crime punishable by a fine rather than imprisonment. In Suga’s case, the prosecution has determined that a fine is appropriate. Suga is expected to face a fine between 10 and 15 million won.
Suga’s DUI Incident and Legal Consequences
Suga, who is currently serving as a social service agent, was caught driving under the influence on the night of August 6th at 11:14 PM in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. After drinking, Suga was returning home on an electric scooter when police stopped him. His blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%, far above the legal limit of 0.08%. Suga appeared at the Yongsan Police Station on August 23rd, 17 days after the incident, where he admitted to the charges. He also posted a handwritten apology on Weverse, expressing remorse for tarnishing BTS’s reputation.
Public Reaction to Suga’s Summary Indictment
Although the news of Suga’s indictment was reported by Korean media, online communities have remained quiet. Most community platforms show little interest in the matter, with no major posts appearing. Initial intense media coverage has since died down, and there is now a backlash against excessive criticism. Many Koreans believe Suga has faced undue harshness. However, on the anti-fan community theqoo, there are still numerous calls for Suga to leave BTS. Some argue that even with a fine, Suga would carry a criminal record, making him unsuitable for BTS. However, theqoo’s influence on public opinion remains limited.

Thank goodness Suga just got a fine. It’s a relief! Koreans really need to know the difference between strict and harsh. The hate he received was way too much.
